The idea that women with long hair are considered to be a more desirable mate in men’s eyes is supported by decades of examples from popular culture and evolutionary psychology. However, one study suggests that short hair is associated with just different, but not worse, aspects of female attractiveness. Women with long hair are seen as “healthy” and “intelligent,” while short-haired beauties come off as “caring” and “feminine.” At the end of the day, it all comes down to preference, but there are many more reasons some men are attracted to ladies with short haircuts.
We took a trip into the male psyche and determined several things that make women with short hair desirable in men’s eyes.
1. Short hair gets more attention.
Short hairstyles stand out from the rest, so men tend to always notice them. From what we’ve gathered online, many men that have a preference for women with short hair, said that short hair is not as common as long hairstyles, which makes it special. If a woman can pull off a pixie cut, she can be irresistible and definitely attention-grabbing.
I’ve got a full-on thing for girls with short hair, but you don’t see it often.
2. They can see your face and neck better.
You might’ve noticed that many fashion shows make models wear their hair back and try to open up their faces as much as possible. That’s because hair can be distracting and hide female features. Men seem to agree with this idea, saying that the face and neck are highly attractive qualities to them, and short haircuts let female beauty shine.
I think one major factor is how it highlights the neck and the shape of the jaw.
While I don’t view it as always attractive, it does show off the cheekbones and facial structure quite well. If you’re big on faces for attractiveness, that may be part of it.
3. Short hair reminds men of attractive celebrities.
Many stunning famous women have rocked pixie cuts, which creates a very favorable association in men’s brains. Whenever asked whether they like women with short hair, many men like to give examples of celebrities, which is great for us ladies, because we know where to draw inspiration from.
Emma Watson, Natalie Portman in V for Vendetta, Winona Ryder in Alien Resurrection. I think it’s in the cheekbones and eyes.
4. Women with short hair require less maintenance.
Think about how long it takes to style a long haircut. It can be a real battle with blow drying, straightening, curling, and the cost of styling products alone sounds insane to men. They hate it when women take too long getting ready. Conclusion: A short hairstyle is a win-win.
Maybe also that it doesn’t require as much work to get it to look good, it effortlessly looks good.
Not only do I find that it makes many women more attractive for me, it also just seems more efficient, which I like as well. Less hair means less time and money spent, while actually increasing the attraction value, at least from my perspective.
5. Short hair = confidence
Not every woman is willing to experiment with short haircuts. It takes real guts and, most importantly, confidence. Men are attracted to women with a high self-esteem and short hair immediately lets them know about it.
Makes me think of confidence and independence. Those are attractive qualities in women.
6. It doesn’t get in the way.
Interestingly, men say that a big factor they appreciate about short hair is the cuddling perks. They don’t like when their girlfriend’s hair gets in their eyes and mouth. In addition, they also prefer to not find hair scattered around their apartments. That’s very practical of them!
I don’t care, but it’s better for cuddling. Less hair in my mouth.
I like all girls, with any kind of hairstyle. But one benefit I can relate to is how it must be easier to unclog the shower drain if all the women in your house have short hair.
7. It often means that a woman cares about her look.
Last but not least, a short hairstyle doesn’t happen by accident. If a woman goes to certain lengths to pick out a great cut for herself and maintain it, that means she’s taking good care of herself. This is very important for men, as it shows them that a woman is interested in taking care of her appearance.
Women with fancier or more unusual hairstyles (short hair, undercuts etc.) tend to be the kind of people who take extra good care of their hair, and by extension, usually the rest of their appearance as well.
Do you have a preference for long or short hair on women? And for the females out there: have you noticed a difference in male attention based on the length of your hair?
